The waves and wind still know His Name

Turns out it takes effort and an active mind to release control. I am able to freely surrender control when I want to. It apparently involves a little more digging and work than I had hoped in the moment. The crazy part is that we don’t ever truly have control. It is something we strive for, cling to, and hope to obtain but it is an illusion, an impossible reality. My most clear coping behavior when I’m feeling out of control is straightening up. As in, I don’t deep clean but have an insatiable desire to tidy everything. I need physical clutter to be gone and clear countertops and that will somehow diminish the real work of dealing with my feelings… Well, at least the kitchen is clean!

One of my favorite albums that I’ve had on repeat going on a few years is You Make Me Brave, by Bethel Music. It is an incredible live worship album recorded, I believe, during a women’s conference. It is powerful. So many of the tracks poignantly touch something deep down in my soul. I’m usually pretty emotional during worship and listening to these songs sends the tears!

Grander earth has quaked before
Moved by the sound of His voice
Seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard

Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
Through it all, through it all
It is well

Far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see
And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea

So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name

It is Well by Bethel Music featuring Kristene DiMarco. These lyrics speak to the greatness of God, His might, His concern for His children and His provision. I love blowing my misconceptions out of the water. It is easy for me to place limitations on God and rely on myself. By soaking these truths in, and feeling the presence of God, and knowing His love for me, I am able to actively trust in His best and surrender control. Soaking in worship is one of the ways I am able to trust, let go, and relax in His goodness. He can calm the physical storm; He is able, and not just that, He is willing. When I am grasping at straws, or rather, tidying my kitchen, I have trained my mind to silently repeat the chorus, “So let go my soul and trust in Him, the waves and wind still know His name.” It has become a shorthand, of sorts. The waves and wind still know His name. Nature bends and obeys.
